Growing rumors of renewed Sanctions against Iran

On 26 January 2010, German Chancellor Angela Merkel met with Israel's President Shimon Peres. The major point on the agenda was Iran's nuclear program and both leaders agreed that "greater transparency must be forthcoming from Iran, otherwise international sanctions beckon," "Time is running out,” Merkel declared. The international community has had a great deal of patience with Iran and has extended several offers. "But all to no avail.” Thus the time has now come to broach the subject of sanctions at international level, she warned. February promises to be an "exciting month” and under the French chairmanship, Merkel expects the issue of sanctions will be tabled at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
