Continuing tensions between communities in Northern Kosovo

Recent information from the United Nations showed that "Northern Kosovo remains a flashpoint of tensions" between Kosovo Serb and Kosovo Albanian communities. “Even this peace remains tenuous,” Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s Special Representative Lamberto Zannier told the Security Council on 22 January 2010, noting that Kosovo Serbs recently hurled rocks and set a truck ablaze when they thought Kosovo Albanians were building beyond what had been agreed in talks facilitated by the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). Serbia would be strongly investing to keep that part of Kosovo away from normalization, representatives from Kosovo told international audiences in the last months.
